Edsel was a brand of Ford, and was planned to slot below Continental, Lincoln and Mercury and above Ford, in the intent to create a similar system to General Motors and Chrysler both had a ladder system. Launched in 1957 as a 1958 model, and named after Edsel Ford, Henry's son, it was a marketing failure and was cancelled before it ever had a chance to right itself by Robert McNamara, who held a grudge against it to begin with. The Edsel only lasted three model years and the 1958 Wagon is sort of my "holy grail" of car shows- I've never seen one in person.
