A surprisingly short year on new issues, although there were plenty of issues that had debuted in previous years.
New from Fleer: Box Score, Hot Shots, and now Platinum and Tradition were both issued. A second set was added to the Hoops brand, this one called Hoops Stars.
Topps added Topps Ten, which was an interesting set as it was a series of subsets featuring the top 10 performers in various statistical categories from the 2001-02 season. Unfortunatly, it was a one-year only issue. Bowman Signature also made it's debut.
Upper Deck added more new sets- Championship Drive, Finite, Generations and UD Glass. Finite, like the 1998-99 SPx set, the first with Finite in the name, was entirely serially numbered. UD Glass utilized thick clear plastic as cards. SP Game Used made it's debut, instead of being game floor this time, it was jersey and warm-up parts.
