Green Heron

Adult and immature Green Heron I came across. Adults are 16-22 inches long and interestingly enough are NOT green. It took me awhile to identify these as it was the first time I saw them. The adult has orange legs which is part of the breeding plumage. I saw the immatures hunting in the same area approximately two months later and am assuming the adult had nested there in June.

Immature Green Heron

I was sitting at the edge of a lagoon taking photos of dragonflies when I noticed this immature green heron approaching from my right. Not wanting to scare it off I moved the camera as slowly as possible and stayed in the same position and shot the photos through the grass.
